Faded headlights made clear and cared-for again

The outer surface of plastic headlights is affected by UV radiation, weather, road chemicals, sand, stone chips and repeated washing. The factory protective layer wears off and the lens can turn yellowish, matte or hazy.

During restoration we remove the damaged outer surface with controlled sanding, polish the plastic clear again and apply a new protective layer.

The result improves the look of the car and can make the light beam clearer when the problem comes from a faded outer surface.

When is headlight restoration worth it?

The service is worth considering when:

  • The lens has turned yellowish

  • The surface has many fine scratches

Before starting we check whether the damage is on the outer surface. If the problem is inside the light, in the reflector, the light source or a cracked housing, polishing the outside will not solve it.

How does the restoration work?

Assessing the light

We check the yellowing, oxidation, scratches, cracks and internal moisture, and explain what result is realistic.

Cleaning and masking the surroundings

We clean the light and mask the painted details around it so sanding and polishing cannot damage them.

Sanding off the damaged layer

We use progressively suitable sanding materials to remove the faded protective layer and even out the surface.

Fine refinement

We reduce the marks of the previous sanding stages with progressively finer materials.

Polishing

We polish the plastic transparent and glossy again.

Applying a protective layer

Unprotected plastic would quickly oxidize again, so we apply UV and weather protection to the restored surface.

Why is a quick polish alone not enough?

If a heavily damaged, yellowed protective layer is still on the lens, polishing alone can give a short-lived or uneven result.

In a thorough restoration the damaged layer is removed in a controlled way, the surface is refined step by step, and only then polished and protected. It is the preparation that decides how clear and even the final result is.

What damage does restoration not fix?

Restoring the outer surface does not remove:

  • Haze inside the light
  • A leak causing internal condensation
  • A cracked housing
  • A melted or damaged reflector
  • A faulty light source
  • Very deep stone chips
  • Micro-cracks inside the plastic
  • Severe internal heat damage

In those cases the light may need repair or replacement.

What does the customer pay for?

The price of headlight restoration includes:

  • Assessing the light
  • Careful protection of the surrounding paint
  • Several sanding stages
  • Professional sanding and polishing materials
  • Machine and hand finishing
  • Cleaning the surface
  • Applying a new protective layer
  • A final inspection

This is usually far more sensible than replacing the whole headlight, provided the housing and internals are fine.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the result last?

Durability depends on the protective layer used, how the car is stored, mileage, washing and UV exposure. Without proper protection, polished plastic can fade again quickly.

Do all scratches disappear?

Fine and medium surface damage can be noticeably reduced. Deep stone chips and cracks reaching into the plastic may not be safe to remove completely.

Do you also restore tail lights?

Many plastic tail lights can also be polished and refined. We assess suitability based on the condition of the specific light.
